Dust in Translation by Céline Peruzzo and Wassili Widmer. The two artists show their works created during a three-month stay in Egypt. The theme of dust allows the artists to reflect on the urban nature of Cairo. It takes on a different artistic function in each of their works, but connects them on a materialistic level. Moreover, dust is as omnipresent as the restless dynamism of the city, which places the works in an indefinable state of time. Therein lies the point of translation between Peruzzo and Widmer's works, the city of Cairo and its inhabitants. Peruzzo’s work focuses on a linen material which is produced in Luxor. The fabric provides food for thoughts in regards to the body and the suggestibility of a wrapping. By crumpling the fabric Peruzzo prints the creases of the material using paint and dust thus creating pieces that are a combination of the artist's hand while leaving a random effect. These textile works become associated to molded objects depicting isolated parts of the artist's body. Peruzzo employs the composition of her painted fabrics where traces of folds become visible due to the applied colour and dust as well as her casted molds which create a contrast between the material’s durability and the body’s frailty to expose what has turned into a a recurrent theme in her oeuvre: The notion of temporality and intimacy.
